Safari 4 (beta) vs Firefox for debugging

While I am updating a web site, I came up to a strange problem: I created a flash file in order to write the email address of my school and avoid spamming. The problem was that some pages were displaying the flash file fine, but some others did not. I first tried to use Safari (Window->Activity) in order to troubleshoot the issue but I did not get any useful error messages.

I then tried Firefox and the error message that I took, helped me solve my problem!

Did you find the above information helpful? You will find a lot more information in my eBook "Programming Dashboard Widgets". You can learn many things from the eBook. You can buy it here.

HTML oddities

As I am adding content to some web sites that I administer, I found a strange HTML rendering that shows Tim Berners Lee (the creator of the Web!) and I thought that it would be nice to share it with you:

Updating Web sites

For the next few days, I am going to be updating some web sites: the web site of the school I am working, the web site of the School Library I am working, and the Comenius site of the school.
Currently I am refreshing my CSS and HTML knowledge.

Please feel free to take a visit and leave your comments.

Photos of my new keyboard!

Although I really like my new keyboard, there exist two small issues with it:

  • There is only one control (ctrl) key on the left. I used to use the right control key to change between different spaces
  • The change of the default Dashboard, Expose, etc. function keys...

Apple will present iPhone 3.0 software at March 17th event

In case you are not aware of it (!!), Apple will present iPhone 3.0 software.

Date: Tuesday 17 March 2009

  • I really hope that iPhone 3.0 will officially support the Greek language!
  • I also hope that the iPhone itself will become cheaper – at least 100$ cheaper!
  • Rumors say that it will also support copy-and-paste. (it is about time!!)

Hotmail.com and Safari Browser

Today, a friend of mine told me that after updating to Safari 4 beta on his Tiger system, he cannot access his account on Hotmail.com.

He also informed that after downgrading to Safari 3, Hotmail.com continues not to work!

I told him to try Firefox and, voilà, Hotmail.com works!

Xcode 3.1.2 and Safari 4 (beta)

If you have installed Safari 4 (beta), like me, you may have noticed that Xcode does not work any more!!!
This will not happen in all Xcode versions. If you have already installed Xcode 3.1.2 (if not just install it!) then everything will work just fine! Read this Knowledge Base Article for more information.

A new (compact) Apple Keyboard!

Almost everyone was expecting the Apple hardware updates: iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro – although the MacBook Pro speed updates were a little surprise.

But I do not think that anyone –including me– was expecting a new (compact) Apple keyboard!!!
In this post, I was telling you that although I like the size of the Wireless keyboard, I did not want any more wireless activity around me, and that I decided that I should get a wired Apple keyboard instead (the one with the numeric keypad). Well, now I know: I want the new Apple Keyboard (because of its beautiful size) and I will get one by the end of March.

Photo.gr is Hacked!

I usually visit the site of the Φωτογράφος magazine very often. Today, I decided to visit it again and I saw the strange messages of the above picture!

I first though that Google is mistaken and I ignored the warning messages twice. Well the site has been hacked and Google Safe Browsing diagnostic was right!

The sad thing is that although (Greek) photographers state that "photographers (and not amateurs) should take serious or important (i.e. Wedding, events, etc.) photographs (it is their job after all – they say)", they try to do Web mastering, Web authoring, etc. themselves!!! (in order to save some money), and they do not let Web professionals, System Administrators, etc. do theirs jobs. This post of mine (in Greek) talks about this problem.

They can now see the results.

Simplicity in Photography

"I only carry one camera—a Canon EOS 5D or Canon EOS-1D Mark II—along with a wide-angle and telephoto zoom. I leave a spare in the hotel. On foreign news assignments, the days can be long and exhausting. I decided years ago that I’d rather carry less equipment, and possibly miss a picture, than injure my back or be too tired to finish. At the end of each day, I edit my work down to about 10 or 20 pictures and transmit to the newspaper. No matter where I am, I find a way either via satellite phone or the Internet. I’ve always tried to stay current when a new piece of technology is introduced. The last thing I want is to be in a difficult situation and unable to send my pictures. If your editors know they can count on you, they’re more likely to send you. I also try to make contributions to the news story if there isn’t a reporter on hand."

One more lesson from photography that you can use when programming!
